Baseball

Our baseball team takes the field in less than a month. Finally, after all the conditioning and weight training we open up with Appalachian State on February sixteenth. I am excited at the fact that I might be getting to see some playing time. Also the way former players describe past seasons say it is a blast. I just hope I do well in my classes so all I really have to concentrate on is baseball. I wish February would hurry up and come. Our team looks really good and I can't wait to see how well we perform.

Baseball

I absolutely hate baseball practice in cold weather. This entire week it hasn't been above thirty-five degrees. I have to put on every piece of clothing in my locker which prohibits me from moving at all. It is so hard to get loose in freezing weather. I am so tight my arm feels like it will fall off after every throw. Also, if you have ever played baseball in the cold and caught a line drive or a hard throw right in the palm you would know that is the worst feeling in the world. Hopefully the forcast will be right for tonight and it will snow, which will force practice into an indoor facility. I can't wait for the spring to arrive.

My spanish three class here at Chapel Hill has had its ups and downs co far. Gomez, the profesor, is a very enlightened and energetic person. He is always bouncing around the room helping one kid to another. On the other hand, Gomez is from Espana or Spain. It's hard to understand not only his spanish but his english as well. I would define his way of speaking, "Spanglish". All in all I hope I do well in the class and finish up my foreign language perspectives here at UNC-Chapel Hill.

Weather

I personally want to know what is going on with our present weather. A few days ago I found myself wearing shorts and a t-shirt in January. Now as I write this, my handy dandy weather bug tells me that it is a scorching sixteen degrees outside. How does the weather change so dramatically? I would expect in January a lot of snow and colder temperatures but no, we are experiencing thunderstorms and sixty degree weather. Also, I woke up today expecting forty degree weather on my walk to sociology, but no, I experienced a crisp six degrees and it was the coldest I think I have ever been. I just don't know how I could go from wearing summer clothes a few days ago to bundling up into every piece of clothing I can find.

Test Day

The day the whole baseball team was waiting for-test day. Even though we had a long break from school, classes and baseball we still had a very extensive workout program. Over the holidays the baseball team had to lift weights and run five out of the seven days of the week. The "only" way for the coaches to tell if you were in shape is to run each player fifty yards, twenty times all under seven seconds. Also, when we were finished with the fifty yard sprints all of us were blessed to partake in three-three hundred yard shuttles all having to average out to your designated time. Many of the players were unable to make their times creating a frown on coaches face. I myself barely made it and am now paying for it. I can barely walk let alone get out of bed because I am so sore. I speak for the team in saying I can't wait for the next test day.
